That's a really good quote. I'm going to take that down and keep it. I'll give you a shout and link for originating it!

My own version of this is "sometimes the only way out is through".

My recent spate of comments is partly an attempt to give your blog some new energy.

For whatever reasons, you seem to suffer from being "the sound of one hand clapping".

I honestly don't know if anyone else ever reads your blog or it's few comments... if they do, they aren't commenting (unless you are more draconian in your moderation than I imagine).

I generally agree that the quality of commentary on the other blogs and the general silence here does not bode well for LANL.

On the other hand, I know a lot of people who barely know the blogs exist and many simply do not waste their time reading much less posting to them, for a wide variety of reasons.

These blogs are only a slice of the pie.

Darko,
You are right.
Most of my efforts that may be positive for Los Alamos occur far from the blogs.

For me, this blog allows me a place to get some thoughts written out.

The blog was never a place designed for high numbers of hits.

As to being draconian, I am not. As you state, many of the people who can change Los Alamos for the better either never read blogs or never post on them.

Thanks for all your comments.

Darko's comments are right on here. I keep looking for a blog that discussions potential solutions but have not found one. I like fun as much as the next guy, and there are some good comments on other blogs but you have to sift through too much nonsense to get to it. I don't care who's blog it is, but it would be nice to have some place to discuss opportunities and things that could be done to help LANL become a great institution again, because I think it can. My frustration with you, Eric, is the one hand clapping thing that Darko mentioned. It always feels like you have something to offer, yet you never seem to get around to it. However, if this can be a blog to start talking about how things can improve and what folks can do, I am all for it.

What would you like to discuss?

I am ready when you are.

As to the one hand clapping, I am willing to discuss when there is someone to discuss with. I am less willing to spend a lot of time writing out extensive analysis in blog format only to have no discussants.

So, I have put out offers for discussion. So far, none of the discussants have been willing to have the discussion on a blog. So, I have not posted answers, even short ones on this blog.

From a selfish point of view, if there is no one else willing to do real work in order to improve Los Alamos, then I should just give up and move.

So, pick a topic!

OK, here is a topic. What ideas do all of us (whomever is reading the blog and Eric) have to help LANL diversity in a smart manner, such that we retain the good workforce we have now (that does not mean retain all, just halt attrition at the top level) and attract the workforce of tomorrow?
